The Hog deer (Axis porcinus) was known to inhabit the Yamuna floodplains of
Delhi but became locally extinct due to the degradation of its characteristic
habitats. A systematic restoration of floodplain wetlands, forest communities, and
grasslands in the Yamuna Biodiversity Park of Delhi has led to the return of many
species of animals, including the Hog deer.
