About the Cover

Rural people have over the years exist together and operate in unity in their community by going to farm together, engaged in cooperative farm work, eat, drink and sleep together. In most cases, for the common benefit of all, rural people embark on several projects such as construction of roads, schools, and markets as the need arises. To this end, this study was carried out to assess the community participation strategy in the maintenance of rural roads in Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State, Nigeria. Structured questionnaires were purposively and randomly administered to two hundred (200) household heads in the selected villages in the study area. The purposive sampling is to ensure that only household heads who are residents of each of the selected villages were sampled. The random technique ensures that individual household heads has equal chance to be sampled for the purpose of the study. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics in the form of frequency and percentages, and Stepwise regression method. Findings show that the strategy adopted for the maintenance of rural roads in the study area is through provision of free labour by mobilizing the community members to the project site.
