Wilhelm Wolff Beer
219th Birthday, (4 January 1797 – 27 March 1850)
Astronomer; Moon Mapping

Wilhelm Wolff Beer was born in Germany on January 4, 1797. He was a banker and astronomer in Berlin, Germany. Together with Johann Heinrich Madler he produced the first exact map of the Moon in 1834-1836, and in 1837 published a description of the Moon. In 1830, Beer and Madler created the first globe of the planet Mars. He was multi talented. He worked for the start of the railway system in Prussia. He promoted the Jewish community in Berlin. In his last decade of life, he worked as a writer and politician. In 1849 he was elected as MP of the first chamber of the Prussian parliament. The crater Beer on Mars is named in Wilhelm Beer's honor and lies near Mädler. There is also a crater called Beer on the Moon and an asteroid 1896 Beer. He died in March 1850 at the age of 53 years and 2 months old (Image source: http://gallery.usgs.gov/).

Soil Bentonite Liner to Control Migration of Iron and Lead Ions
