CELEBRITY OF THE MONTH
Ernest Orlando Lawrence
112th Bithday, (August 8, 1901 – August 27, 1958)
Inventor of Cyclotron

Ernest Orlando Lawrence was born on 8th August, 1901, at Canton, South Dakota (United States). He was an American physicist and Nobel laureate, best known for his invention and development of the cyclotron, a device to accelerate nuclear particles and used in the discovery of the transuranium elements. The cyclotron, led to the development of particle physics and revolutionary discoveries about the nature of the universe. In 1929 he invented the cyclotron, a device for accelerating nuclear particles to very high velocities without the use of high voltages. The swiftly moving particles were used to bombard atoms of various elements, disintegrating the atoms to form, in some cases, completely new elements. Hundreds of radioactive isotopes of the known elements were also discovered. In 1941 the instrument cyclotron was used to generate artificially the cosmic particles called mesons, and later the studies were extended to antiparticles.

ANALYSIS

Comparative study of C, Objective C, C++ programming language

Surbhi Gupta, Puneet Bhalla

“A programming language is an artificial language designed to express computations that can be performed by a machine, particularly a computer” .The initial development of C occurred at AT&T Bell Labs between 1969 and 1973. It was named "C" because its features were derived from an earlier language called "B" was a stripped-down version of the BCPL programming language.

RESEARCH

Effects of methods and quantities of zinc sulphate application on nodulation in irrigated groundnut (Arachis Hypogaea L.)

Sudhir Kamath KV, Krishnakumar G, Hanumanthappa M, Mavarkar NS, Anand MR

The deficiencies of micro nutrients particularly zinc is of critical importance for sustaining high productivity of groundnut particularly in irrigated intensive cropping systems. Zinc is required in small concentrations but critical to allow several key plants physiological pathways to function normally. About 50% of the groundnut soils in India show Zn deficiencies causing considerable yield losses. Zinc is known to play a key role in nodulation but information in this regard is meager.
